Again! Pervaiz Elahi Placed on a Two-Day Physical Remand by Islamabad ATC

Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad granted a two-day physical remand for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

Following the ATC’s decision, Pervaiz Elahi was taken into custody by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police. This development followed the Islamabad High Court’s suspension of his detention under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance, after which he was re-arrested by the CTD in connection with the judicial complex attack case.

The case against Pervaiz Elahi was initially registered at the CTD police station on September 3. His legal counsel claimed that he and his driver were forcefully removed from their vehicle, alleging that Pervaiz Elahi had been abducted outside the Police Lines in that vehicle.

LHC Requests Responses from Police

In a separate legal proceeding, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought responses from the Punjab police and the Superintendent Jail concerning the re-arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Pervaiz Elahi.

During the hearing, the Chief Police Officer (CPO) of Rawalpindi expressed a desire for the court to accept their apology, stating, “We request the court to consider our apology.” Consequently, the court directed the District Police Officer (DPO) and the Central Police Officer (CPO) to submit their responses within seven days, indicating the necessity for a thorough investigation before any decisions are made.

The LHC subsequently adjourned the hearing until September 18, affording all concerned parties adequate time to present their arguments.
