In response to the ongoing financial challenges posed by the current economic climate, Pakistan Railways has made the decision to cease operations on the Shalimar Express. The railway administration is currently incurring a daily loss of Rs. 2 million.
The Shalimar Express, which plies the route between Lahore and Karachi, was reintroduced in May 2023 following an eight-month hiatus. Additionally, Pakistan Railways had undertaken the refurbishment of 19 coaches to improve passenger amenities.
Previously, the train’s route covered destinations such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Rohri, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Multan via Toba Tek Singh, Faisalabad, and Lahore.
