In August 2023, the Suzuki Alto, one of Pakistan’s top-selling passenger cars with an engine capacity of below 1000cc, experienced a remarkable surge in sales, posting a substantial 92 percent increase compared to the previous month.
The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) recently released a report covering vehicle sales for the past two months, July and August. This upswing in Alto sales has provided a much-needed boost to the Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company, which had faced challenges over the past several months due to import restrictions and rupee devaluation.
In August 2023, Pak Suzuki’s overall sales increased by an impressive 75 percent, and the Suzuki Alto played a pivotal role in this achievement. Last month, a total of 2,679 units of Suzuki Alto were sold, a significant jump from the 1,440 vehicles sold in July.
For the same period, the company’s overall sales figures stood at 4,268 units, compared to 2,444 in July. The breakdown of these figures includes 2,769 units of Alto, 305 units of Suzuki Cultus, 359 units of Suzuki Wagon R, 506 units of Suzuki Swift, 166 units of Suzuki Bolan, and 163 units of Suzuki Ravi.
The PAMA report also highlights a 49 percent increase in car sales in August 2023, with a total of 7,579 vehicles sold, compared to 5,092 units in July 2023.
However, the year-to-year (YoY) sales figures present a different picture, as they reveal a 36 percent decline in car sales during this period when compared to the previous year.
